The park neighbors the homes of the Samburu tribe of Kenya, a tribe known for their remote culture, pastoral and nomadic way of life.

Due to its remote distance and the fact that it was inaccessible for many years, the park has retained a naturally serene and quiet feeling. Besides the numerous wildlife found in this game reserve, the park is also a bird haven.

Samburu National Reserve is situated within the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Measuring approximately 104sq. kilometres (approx. 65sq. miles) in size, this unfenced savannah grassland is roughly 350km (217 miles) from Nairobi. It is relatively small in size compared to other Kenyan parks, such as Tsavo or Masai Mara.

Samburu national reserve derives its name from the Samburu people of Kenya who have lived in the area for many years.

The Uaso Nyiro River cuts through this reserve, drawing a big population of Kenya animals to the park. The river bustles with activity from its huge population of Nile crocodile.



Day 1 Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve

Pick up from your hotel at 0730hrs. Safari Briefing and passing the majestic Mt. Kenya en route to the open savannah of Samburu Game Reserve, arrives in Samburu in late afternoon. You will have a lunch en-route. After checkin in your camp/lodge, leave to the camp for evening game drive. Dinner and overnight stay at Samburu Campsite


Day 2: Samburu Game reserve

Full day in Samburu with picnic lunch. Optional visit to Samburu villages Samburu Game Reserve has Several species are considered unique to the region, including its ts unique dry-country animal life: All three big cats, lion, cheetah and leopard, can be found here, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos and Ewaso Ngiro river contains large numbers of Nile crocodile.

Other mammals frequently seen in the park include gerenuk, warthogs, Grant’s gazelle, Kirk’s dik-dik, impala, waterbuck, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe. 350 species of bird have been recorded. These include Somali ostrich, grey-headed kingfisher, sunbirds, bee-eaters, marabou stork, tawny eagle, bateleur, vulturine guineafowl,yellow throated spurfowl, lilac-breasted roller, palm nut vulture, red-billed hornbill, secretary bird, Verreaux’s eagle, superb starling, yellow-billed hornbill and vultures.


Day 3: Samburu – Nairobi

After breakfast leave Samburu to Nairobi where your tour ends arriving in late afternoon.
